How much is a voiceover for an online video?

So, how much does a voiceover for my online video cost?

The sixty-thousand dollar question!

Don’t worry, it doesn’t cost sixty-thousand dollars. 😅

The short answer is:

Somewhere between $450 and $750 Aussie dollars, for a short online video.

The longer answer is…

The cost for your voiceover will depend on a few things: the length of voiceover needed, the planned usage – including the size of the intended audience, the technicality of the topic or language, and whether you need the voice synced to time or to actions in the visuals.

I charge a basic fee of $450 AUD (plus GST if the paying client is in Australia) for up to 90 seconds of general corporate/explainer type voice over, to be used on websites or non-promoted social posts.

The price goes up with the length of the video. Medical or pharmaceutical narration – which is my VO specialty – attracts a small additional fee, as does time-syncing of the voice over to the video.

So let’s say you have a 5-minute video about the uses and contraindications of a pharmaceutical product, and you need the voiceover audio time-synced to the finished visuals: that’ll be around $750 AUD.

Other things to consider are:

• the rate will be higher for commercial use (ie a paid ad on YouTube or boosted social post for advertising).
• longer educational videos, or videos being used for internal company training etc, might fall under eLearning rates rather than online video rates – just give me a rundown of your project and I’ll let you know.
• there’ll be extra fees for multiple revisions (I include one revision as standard) or a live directed session.

Other Australian voice actors will have their own rates… mine are all fairly close to the MEAA (the Aussie media/arts union) industry standard rates though, so should give you a good ballpark idea.
