Hi, I’m Sumara. I’m an Australian actor and voice actor. I’ve been performing since I was a kid, and apparently I never grew out of it.
When I was 10, I performed The Skipping-Rope Hornpipe at school, complete with a floral op-shop dress, floppy hat and two pillows for comedic flair. I sang. I skipped. I ate a Mars Bar mid-performance. I got a big laugh from the audience, and frankly, it’s still a career highlight.
That love of performing never left me. I went on to study drama, train in screen and stage acting, and spend a great many hours behind microphones. These days my work moves between voiceover and acting, but the thing I love about both is the same: finding the human connection in a story and making somebody feel something.
As a voice actor, I work from my professional home studio in NSW with clients in Australia and around the world. My work spans commercials, corporate and eLearning, characters, audiobooks and narration, with a particular fondness for natural reads, playful characters and scripts containing words everyone else is afraid to pronounce.
As an actor, I continue to train and work across screen, stage, corporate and commercial projects. I’m drawn to characters with warmth, humour, complexity and a little bit of oddness – which, now that I think about it, probably explains the whole skipping-rope thing too.
Mostly, I still love what I loved at 10: telling a good story, connecting with an audience, and occasionally getting a laugh when I wasn’t entirely sure one was coming.
